We are honored to invite Ames area youth to write short (7 pages or less) plays for our first annual Young Playwrights Festival. This new event celebrates the creative spark and will culminate in a staged reading of the winning plays in each grade level. Winners will also receive prizes from local sponsors.
In order to be eligible, plays MUST:
- Be written by K-12 aged students who live (or attend school) in Ames
- Be NO MORE than 7 pages long.
- Follow the writing template established in our Playwriting Guides (this helps us gauge how long a play is. If you send in a play that is written in short story form, we will be unable to consider it)
- Use family-friendly language
- Be original! No adaptations or AI drafted content will be eligible.
We have created two different Playwriting Guides for students, teachers, and parents to reference. Please open/download the one that most suits your/your student’s grade level.
